Art therapy is a form of psychotherapy that combines artmaking with traditional psychotherapy, allowing for non-verbal communication and new ways to problem-solve and explore. No prior art experience or skills are needed, and all ages can benefit from this approach. Just be ready with an open mind and curiosity to learn more about yourself!
The practice of mindfulness encourages us to be in the present moment without judgment. Research shows that engagement in mindfulness practice can lower anxiety, depression, and somatic symptoms as well as improve memory, focus, and more (Davis & Hayes, 2012). Additionally, research has shown that engaging in artmaking can help facilitate and strengthen mindfulness skills.
During weekly 90-minute sessions, participants will explore a variety of topics using various artistic media depending on the week’s topic and goal. Following the artmaking experience, the group will have the opportunity to engage in open dialogue and reflection together. Group members will come away from the group with skills to help manage stress and navigate life's challenges with greater ease and awareness. Join us as we embark on a journey of self-discovery and personal growth through the transformative power of art and mindfulness.
